Issues and options for running Microsoft Dynamics CRM versions 2011 and 2013 in Windows 8.1

By - January 13, 2014

With the release of Windows 8.1, many businesses that have been running Windows 8 are upgrading so they can get the Start Menu back, along with other enhancements that are included.  Among those changes in Windows 8.1 is Internet Explorer 11.

Currently Internet Explorer 11 is not supported for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 or 2013 which many people weren’t aware of before updating to Windows 8.1.  When accessing Dynamics CRM using Internet Explorer 11, you will actually get pushed to the Mobile Express site, even though you may not be using a mobile device.  You can also verify this by looking at the URL, if your Dynamics CRM URL looks like https://orgname.website.com/m , the /span> depicts that you are viewing the Mobile Express version of CRM designed for phones and tablets.

Without installing another browser like Firefox or Chrome, there are two options to get around this issue, until Dynamics CRM 2011 and 2013 are fully compatible with Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer 11.

Option 1

  1. From within Internet Explorer Select the Tools Menu Option
  2. Scroll Down to Compatibility View Settings
  3. Add your Dynamics CRM URL to the list

You should now be able to navigate to your Dynamics CRM URL without getting pushed to the mobile client site.

Option 2

You can append /main.aspx to the end of your Dynamics CRM URL

If your current Dynamics CRM URL looks like this https://test.contoso.com you can change it to https://test.contoso.com/main.aspx and you should be able to access the regular CRM site instead of mobile express.
